Girls from Trebinje had the opportunity to learn about the charms of football through interaction with the players of ŽFK Leotar, who helped organize the festival, and also gain new skills. The players prepared several courses and exercises for the girls, shared plenty of advice, and invited them to join their club and continue playing football.
"It was truly wonderful today in Trebinje, and all the girls who participated in the festival went home with smiles on their faces, which is the whole point of this. This is the second year in a row for this project in Trebinje, and I’m sure we’ll be back next year, as the effects on the growth of women’s football in this city are very visible," said Bojan Aćimović, FFBiH Grassroots Manager.
The festival also included participants from the "Disney Playmakers" program, another joint project run in schools and kindergartens across Bosnia and Herzegovina by FFBiH and UEFA.
Mirjana Mucović, Playmakers Project Coordinator for Trebinje said: "I’m glad this festival was organized in Trebinje and that the girls who went through the Playmakers program had the opportunity to showcase their skills. Although they’re learning football through play and fun, at this festival their skills were praised by the instructors. Several girls from this program have already joined the training sessions of ŽFK Leotar's youth categories, which speaks volumes about the success of this project. This fall, we’ll start with a new group of girls. I’d also like to thank the teachers who organize and run training sessions in all schools and kindergartens, as they bear the greatest responsibility for this project. I must point out that all three elementary schools in our city, as well as the kindergarten with the most enrolled children, are part of this project."
At the end of the event, a football match was played where the result wasn’t the main focus, but those who showed the most skill with the ball were awarded special prizes.
