
- Staged a match between FC Željezničar and FC Sarajevo with 20.000 spectator audience, in the reintegrated Grbavica (occupied during the war, thus splitting the town in two)
- Although it was not UEFA's member, the FF BIH achieved participation of the BIH U-21 National Team in qualifications for the 1998 European Championship
- The referees from the FF BIH admitted to FIFA
- Staged the first friendly international match versus Albania in the Stadium Bilino Polje, Zenica
- "Lilies", as the BiH National Team players used to be called, on September 1, 1996 played the first qualification match in Kalamata, Peloponnese versus the Greek National Football Team
- In its host capacity BiH played a match with Croatia in Bologna, Italy. Departure of the BIH National Team for Bologna organized with the first civil charter flight from Sarajevo
- In July Congress held in Zurich, the FF BIH admission to FIFA was ceremonially made official
- In the Olympic Stadium Koševo, before some 50.000 spectators, in a friendly match BiH has defeated Italy with 2:1
- Late that year BiH National Team was on tour in Brasil
- During qualification cycle the FF BIH managed to change its hosting venues, now it can play its matches in its own country
