After he was appointed head coach for the Bosnia and Herzegovina Under-21 national football team at the FFBIH Executive Board meeting on March 10th, Vinko Marinovic visited FFBIH office in Sarajevo for the first time today. He had numerous duties to perform, but first he met with president Elvedin Begic, general secretary Jasmin Bakovic and national "A" team coach Mehmed Bazdarevic.
After meeting the members of the administration, Marinovic found some time for a short interview for the official website. The first thing he mentioned is that he was taken by surprise by the offer to coach the young Bosnian national team:
"It all happened so fast and unexpectedly. But regardless of that, it's a great honor and obligation to lead a national team. This was an invitation that could not be refused."
At the moment, all Marinovic thinks about is the first qualifier with Liechtenstein's national team:
"We don't have much time, we have to act quickly and start preparing for the first game. We'll have seven days to prepare and get to know each other, and we have to use that time effectively. As far as I know, there's a new generation of players coming, some of them which I'm going to meet for the first time. I believe we'll successfully cooperate, and approach the game with Liechtenstein seriously so we can successfully start the qualifiers."
Marinovic also spoke about his plans for the future:
"The players that we have at our disposal have already gone through our youth teams. Of course, we'll keep an eye on those who might apply for the U-21 team, but we'll also turn our attention to some U-19 team members who might debut for a young team soon. Our goal is to maintain the continuity when it comes to preparing the players for national "A" team. These are plans for the future, but now I'm focused solely on the match with Liechtenstein."
The new coach will have an official introduction at the press conference which is scheduled for Tuesday, March 21st at 11:00 hours at the hotel Terme, Ilidza.
