At the Fonte Nova stadium in Salvador, Bosnia and Herzegovina achieved its first World Cup victory today. Our team defeated Iran with 3:1 (1:0).
Edin Dzeko scored first in 23' for 1:0, and Miralem Pjanic increased the result to 2:0 in the second half time (59'). Reza Ghoochanneijhad scored one goal for Iran in 82', but a minute later our Avdija Vrsajevic sets the final result of 3:1.
"Congratulations to the players for the good performance and victory. We can go home now with our heads held high. We are not happy with the whole thing, if there were less referee mistakes we would have gone beyond group stage, we had the quality. I'm sorry we disappointed many people. We have really good men here and we should start thinking about Euro qualifications. First match was really good, and only if referee didn't void our legitimate goal everything would have been different. We lacked experience, but I don't have anything against the players, they were great", said coach Safet Susic.
Miralem Pjanic: "I'm glad I scored a goal at the World Cup, but I'm sorry we didn't achieve what we all hoped for. With little more luck, we would have gone to 1/8th finals. We gave our best, and this was a huge experience for us."
Edin Dzeko was declared as the man of the match, and he was given an award for that.
"Even with this victory, we go home sad because we couldn't get past the group strage. That disallowed goal against Nigeria I will remember for the rest of my life", said Dzeko.
Bosnia and Herzegovina ended its first World Cup appearance at the third place in Group F with 3 points behind Argentina (9) and Nigeria (4), and ahed of Iran (1).
