Victory for the end of the qualifications

Defeat by England

The women’s U-17 team of Bosnia and Herzegovina was defeated by the English team with 0:4 in Zenica today in the second-round match of Group 1 for 2020 EURO qualifications.

England came to advantage in the 14th minute. Agnes Beever-Jones took the ball of the BH players 30 meters away of the goal of Anamarija Prljević and hit the net with a strong shot.

England’s advantage was doubled in the 38th minute. Mia Ross got the ball on the left side of the penalty area of the BH team and passed it to Maria Edwards who scored a goal from about ten meters.

The English girls also had a field initiative in the second half, and in the 54th minute, they scored the third goal. Deearna Goodwin sent a fine ball to Lucy Watson on the right side, who was precise for 3:0.

The final score was set by Maisie Symonds in the 76th minute. Edwards made a good pass on the right, but the ball was shortly bounced by Prljević, then Symonds ran on it and scored.

At the end of the match, the BH national team head coach Ilija Lucić said:

“I congratulate the England team on winning. They have much better quality and are more powerful than us. We were not physically recovered from a tough first-round match. England, on the other hand, played with 7 new players in the first line-up today, comparing to the last match. We don’t have that luxury, we can’t change that much, and we didn’t have that freshness today that our opponent had.”

Lucić also commented on the next match with Croatia:

“It’s a very important match for us. We must make every effort to achieve our goal and qualify for the elite round. We hope we can prepare the team and win.”

In the second match of the group, Belgium beat Croatia 1:0. After two rounds, the first place in the table is held by England with 6 points ahead of Belgium which won 4, B&H with 1 and Croatia without points.

The third round is scheduled for 27th October at 13:30 h, when Bosnia and Herzegovina vs. Croatia (FF BH Training Centre, Zenica) and England vs. Belgium (FK Mladost Stadium, Doboj Kakanj) will be played.
