Zukanović played 23 matches for the BH national team. The first national team’s game he played was on 16th October 2012 in the qualifying match for the FIFA World Cup against Lithuania at the “Bilino Polje” Stadium in Zenica. Then, the BH national team won 3:0, and Zukanovic entered the game in the 74th minute instead of Senad Lulić.
Currently, he is a member of the Italian Genoa, and in his career he played for Željezničar, Dender, Eupen, Kortrijk, Gent, Chievo, Sampdoria, Roma and Atalanta.
