Today, World Health Day is celebrated around the world under the auspices of the World Health Organization.
As a socially responsible organization, UEFA pays special attention to all the challenges of today when it comes to human rights, health and environmental protection.
To mark the day, the European House of Football organized a panel discussion with experts in the field of physical activity, nutrition, mental health and illicit substance abuse, discussing the latest developments in these fields. The discussion was held as part of the “Coaches for Health” campaign #FeelWellPlayWell. The campaign was launched in December 2021, inviting the head coaches of European men’s and women’s national teams to use their influence and emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle for young people aged 13 to 17. Thirty-three associations and 62 head coaches participated in the campaign.
The “Coaches for Health” is part of UEFA’s health policy, one of 11 policies under UEFA’s “Football and Sustainability 2030” strategy, “Strength through Unity”, which aims to inspire, activate and accelerate collective action on respect for human rights and the environment in the context of European football.
The BH FF, as part of the UEFA family, actively participates in all projects related to health, which are implemented through the UEFA program of social responsibility and cooperation with doctors and nutritionists, who, in addition to our national teams, hold lectures on these topics also to clubs in B&H, as well as to all stakeholders.
“UEFA is paying more and more attention to projects and campaigns that are not directly related to football, but which significantly contribute to the progress and development of the game”, said Prof. Dr Reuf Karabeg, specialist in general surgery and doctor of the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and continues, “Of course, such activities take place throughout the year through various professional medical workshops, seminars and lectures that we organize with all relevant factors and stakeholders. With their popularity, our national team players can influence young people to live healthily, to eat healthily and to take care of their health in general through playing sports. Sport and health are two sides of the same coin. In a healthy body, a healthy mind is a mode of living. Regular physical or sports activity is one of the key factors for leading a quality and healthy lifestyle, not only physical but also mental well-being.”
