The end of last year marked the promotion of our best team into Group A of the Nations League, as well as the health problems of the head coach, because of which he missed the draw of qualifying groups for EURO 2020.
Head coach, what’s your health status now?
“I feel great, I recovered after the surgeries I had and, most importantly, all my findings are good. At first, I had to take care of the diet, but now that’s all right too, so I have no difficulty. I have still to do this one minor corrective surgery and it will probably be after the match with Greece. I am delighted and eager to wait for these new qualifications.”
How would you comment on our qualification group for EURO 2020?
“We have not got an easy group. Italy that did not qualify for the World Cup is a favourite and they should not allow themselves not to qualify for another big competition in a short period of time. There is always an inconvenient Greece, we have Finnish who are not as easy, but I think that Liechtenstein and Armenia do not come to that circle in which they would have a chance to go to the European Championship. BH has quality players and we are just thinking about going to the next big competition, which is the European Championship.”
The BH national team was eliminated twice in the play-off in the qualifications for the European Championship. How difficult will it be now to provide participation among the best European teams?
“We have a good national team, which I also spoke during the Nations League, and our goal is to qualify for the European Championship. I am an optimist and I believe that all my players have a great desire and great ambition to go to this competition. No matter how tough the group is, we believe we can pass.”
Head coach, what is the plan for the March matches, will there be new players in the national team?
“It seems we have time, but it’s not like that. These two matches are coming very soon, first Armenia and then Greece, and I have been focusing on this for a long time. I follow all the players, and until the qualifications they will play three or four games, but the championship in Russia has not yet begun.
These players who currently play, more or less are standard and play well. Some injured players like Sejo (Kolašinac) is recovered, he plays well in Arsenal, but the younger ones such as Gojak and Lončar, who play in Croatia and whom I followed, are very good. There are also some others, but we will see how they will play until the invitation. Mostly, we will not change much, some new ones may come, but we will see in the next period in what shape they are.”
At the end, Prosinečki noted that he would use his stay in Sarajevo to specify with his associates the preparations for the start of qualifications for EURO 2020.
