The senior team will play with Armenia and Greece in the qualifications for the 2020 EURO, while the opponent of the U-21 team in qualifications for the European U-21 Championship will be the team of Moldova.
Robert Prosinečki says on the upcoming games:
“Every match is important, but it will be much easier if we make a good start. For this reason, the first two matches are important, especially because we play home. Armenia is not a team that could be involved in the fight for the first two places, but it is a team that is eager to prove and it will not be easy against them. Greece is an inconvenient team that made problems to many teams in recent years, as well as to BH. They have quality, their players play in good clubs. In the Nations League, we made a good result and I expect to continue to play in the qualifications at that level too.”
When asked by the journalist about the absence of Asmir Begović from the list, the head coach Prosinečki replied:
“Begović has not been goalkeeping in his club for months, where he has problems with the coach. He was not at the last gatherings, he was also injured. On the other hand, Šehić defends excellent, Pirić is standard in Maribor. For this reason, we decided to invite these younger goalkeepers.”
The head coach of the U-21 team, Vinko Marinović, points out that he and his assistants have already begun to analyse opponents in the qualifications:
“We have already started to follow our opponents, so we are familiar with the qualities of Moldova. All teams in Europe have to be accepted with the maximum seriousness and we will enter this match in this way. The group is demanding, but we will go match by match. Now we are concentrated on Moldova. We will have many good matches which will represent a real test for these players to show how much they can.”
The “A” team will gather at the “Austria & Bosnia” Hotel in Ilidža on 18th March, and the day after, at the FF BH Training Centre in Zenica, a gathering of the U-21 team is scheduled.
