Head coaches about Group A

The seven-time European champions Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark will play in group “A” of the European Championship for female cadets, in addition to our national team. Matches in this group will be played in Sarajevo and Zenica. We talked to the representatives of all national teams and asked them if they were satisfied with their opponents and what their ambitions were in this competition.

Ilija Lucić, head coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina

“First of all, I am happy and proud that the European Championship will be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The group is strong, but all the national teams that qualified for the EURO are top teams. Now we need to take responsibility and present the state and our Federation in the best way. In the last qualifiers, the corona disturbed us, but I believe that this time we will have all the players at our disposal and that we will offer great resistance to strong opponents. I hope that the audience will support us, and the girls will do their best, so I believe that we will not disappoint you.”

Thomas Oostendorp, head coach of the Netherlands

“We are satisfied with the draw. I am glad that we will play with the host of the tournament because we expect that there will be a lot of spectators and it will be a nice experience for us. Our goal in this championship is a gold medal. It will be a great challenge because there are many good national teams. The least we want is one of the first three places, which lead to the World Cup in India.”

Laura Halkd, team manager of Denmark

“We are very excited about participating in the European Championship. The group will be very challenging for us. In addition to the hosts, there are two good national teams of Germany and the Netherlands. It will be three high-level matches, but we could not expect anything less from the European Championship. However, our ambitions are high and we will try to reach the finals and get involved in the fight for medals.”

Friederike Kromp, head coach of Germany

“We are happy to be a part of this championship, which is being held after a three-year break. We are glad that we were drawn to Group A and that we will play in Sarajevo. I hope we stay here until the very end. We know our opponents well. We played qualifiers with Bosnia and Herzegovina in Portugal and it was a really difficult match for us. We played two matches with Denmark in February as part of preparations for the elite qualifying round. And, of course, we always play derby matches with the Netherlands; we know each other quite well. They have ambitions to win this competition and I could hardly wait to play with them. Apart from us and the Netherlands, I also see France and Spain as candidates for the first three places, which I am sure will pass the qualifications. Germany is the record holder in the number of championships won, but I tell my girls that pressure is a privilege. In the qualification, we were two goals behind Austria and we managed to turn the result around and qualify for the European Championship. I am sure that the girls will know how to cope with the pressure that this competition brings and the challenges that await us.”
