"A" Team Ready for Austria

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national "A" football team held their official training today at Asim Ferhatović-Hase stadium in Sarajevo before the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Austria.

The match will be played tomorrow, September 9, 20:45 at Bilino Polje in Zenica. BiH and Austria have met five times before: four games were competitive and one was friendly. Each side has one win, with three draws.

The first meeting happened on March 24, 2001, in Sarajevo in 2002 World Cup qualifiers, ending 1:1. Current BiH coach Barbarez put our team ahead in the 42’, with Michael Baur equalizing in the 61’. In the return game on September 5, 2001, Austria won 2:0 in Vienna via Andreas Herzog’s double (38’, 87’).

The 2015 friendly in Vienna ended 1:1 (Marc Janko 34’, Izet Hajrović 48’). In the first 2018 Nations League game, BiH won 1:0 in Zenica (Džeko 78’), while the return leg ended a draw 0:0 in Vienna.

Tomorrow’s referee is Jesús Gil Manzano (Spain), with assistants Diego Barbero and Ángel Nevado. Fourth official Guillermo Cuadra Fernandez, VAR officials Carlos del Cerro Grande and Valentín Gómez, all also from Spain.
