Head coach Sergej Barbarez had only positive comments about his team’s performance: “As I always say, the journey is what matters, and results accelerate and improve that process. We can see what playing at the World Cup has meant to us; we finally have courage in our play. Everyone on the pitch wants the ball possession. The plan was to have four or six points by the time we faced Sweden, and then go for all three points against Sweden with Edin. There’ll now be euphoria throughout the country for the next four or five days, but we deserve it. We’ll stay focused, and we’re going for the win against Sweden.”
Ivan Bašić played a good game and provided the assist for Tarik Muharemović for the second goal: “This was one of our best matches, both with and without the ball. Looking at the entire game, I think we dominated all 90 minutes. If we’d been a little calmer in the final third, we could’ve scored a few more goals. We’ll rest until Friday and the Sweden match, and then we’ll play in front of a packed Bilino Polje. After our good performances at the World Cup, we’re full of confidence. We’ve raised our level, but we can certainly improve even further. Sweden is next, and it’ll be a great honor for us to be part of the match in which Edin Džeko says farewell.”
Young Esmir Bajraktarević provided two assists in the match: “I’m happy we won today, but we have to stay focused on Sweden because it won’t be an easy match. There was no crowd, which felt strange, but we adapted, didn’t think about it and focused on the pitch and winning the match. We all have the same plan, and we all have a lot of passion for Bosnia and Herzegovina, to give everything for this country. Edin Džeko was my idol when I was a kid, and we’ll give everything we have against Sweden for him and for Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
