After attending the match between Sweden and Iceland, the head coach Faruk Hadžibegić shared his thoughts on our team’s first opponent in the EURO qualifiers, which we open on 23rd March against Iceland.
“I must admit that I am surprised by the reaction of the Iceland team, they were visibly disappointed after the defeat against Sweden, they must have had high expectations. This tells me that they have serious ambitions to make a good result in the qualifiers for qualification for the 2024 EURO. According to what they have shown, it is a team that runs a lot, plays aggressively both in attack and defence. It’s good that I had the opportunity to watch them directly, and following their statements, I got the impression that they consider Portugal to be the favourite in our group, and that they are the most serious candidate for winning second place. They are ranking both Slovakia and Luxembourg ahead of us, which is not so bad, because it can be an additional motivation for our players, in addition to the fact that we are playing the first match at home. We are undoubtedly a better team and we will be ready for the duel in March”, Hadžibegić concluded.
