Head coach Sergej Barbarez expressed satisfaction with both the result and his team’s performance: “The goal was to make a good start in the Nations League, to let the other national teams know that we’re here, that we’re capable, competitive and not afraid, even when we don’t have the support of our fans. The players showed commitment and desire. They gave everything they had, and of course there are always things we can improve. Looking at the overall picture, I’m very satisfied with this match. For 35 minutes of the first half, we moved well and thought one step ahead. The last 10 minutes were a little hectic, which we allowed to happen without possession. There were also some poor passes, but we defended superbly and recovered behind the ball. All the players deserve compliments. As for the goalkeeper, there’s always a ‘plan A’ and a ‘plan B.’ Zlomislić has played some matches before, and we know what we have in him, especially with his ability on the ball and the decisions he makes. For me, it was a simple solution, but it certainly wasn’t easy for him.”
Tarik Muharemović dominated his duels with Poland’s forwards and produced another strong performance in the Dragons jersey: “We played exactly the way we need to play. We started the match very well, played without fear and for one another. These are the things that are getting better and better, and that’s how we need to play every match. We’re missing goals, but we’re taking it step by step. It’s a very important point for us, and we’re immediately shifting our focus to the next match. You can feel the absence of Vasilj and Dedić, but Zlomislić and Smajlović had superb appearance. Zlomislić saved us many times. Still, we’re a team, and you can be sure that if someone is missing, there’s a worthy replacement.”
Martin Zlomislić was unbeaten in goal and kept a clean sheet with several superb saves: “Unfortunately, Vasilj got injured before this match. You’re always ready to go in goal and always expecting it because you don’t know what the head coach will say or who he’ll choose. There are three of us, and everyone has support. The head coach chose me this time. In the end, everything went well and I’m satisfied with the point. I’m sure we’ll show even better football in the upcoming matches.”
