In Memoriam: Miroslav Ćiro Blažević

The well-known football expert and former head coach of the “A” national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina died after a serious illness today in Zagreb at the age of 88.

He led the national team of our country from the bench from July 2008 to December 2009, and managed to reach the play-offs for the 2010 World Cup, in which the BH team was stopped by Portugal.

He was born on 10th February 1935 in Travnik, and in his rich coaching career he managed, among others, Sion, Rijeka, Dinamo Zagreb, Grasshopper, Nantes, Hajduk Split, Zagreb, Shanghai Shenhua, Sloboda from Tuzla, and Zadar. In addition to Bosnia and Herzegovina, he was the head coach of the national teams of Switzerland, Croatia, Iran, and the Olympic team of China.

He won championships and cup competitions in Switzerland, Croatia, and in the former Yugoslavia, and his greatest success was the third place with the Croatian national team at the 1998 World Cup in France.
