Kodro: We expected more from this match

After the match with Iceland, head coach Meho Kodro gave his opinion on tonight’s match.

“Our expectations from this match were higher, especially in terms of results. We expected a difficult match, although in my opinion it was not that difficult, especially in the first half, when they did not press us much, nor they did have the defensive intensity that we expected. In the second half, we improved the “back pass”, created 4-5 chances that we did not realize. In the end, we were opened so much that we went for the win and unfortunately conceded a goal in the additional time. The situation in the group is quite complicated, while there is any hope, we will fight, but we will also prepare for the play-offs. We will analyse the situation and see how to cotinue.”

Captain Edin Džeko believes that Bosnia and Herzegovina deserved more in this match.

“When we took a risk at the end of the match and opened ourselves, went for the win, we were cut short by a goal in the additional time. That’s how we were left without a point, and I think we deserved all three by everything shown, because Iceland didn’t seriously threaten us except with the chances in the last five minutes. We are punished for our failures. We tried a lot today, we missed that “back pass”. When Pjanić entered, it was much faster and we were more dangerous for a goal than in the first half. When a match is lost, everything is viewed negatively. This was our last chance to catch the connection in the qualifications. We have four more matches to play as well as possible and to prepare for what comes after that.”

Gazibegović was the starter in tonight’s match and the defeat hit him very hard.

“This kind of defeat hurts. We wanted this victory very much. We had a few chances that we didn’t realize and then we were careless and conceded a goal in the additional time. I say, it hurts, but we have to move on.”
