Post-Match Comments From the Coach and Players

Head coach Sergej Barbarez didn't hide his excitement after the significant victory, emphasizing the team's performance and approach: "I'm thrilled with how we played. Our journey is ongoing, and it hasn’t been easy, but we knew the moment would come when we'd face opponents on our level. I demand creativity from the players, recognizing the right moments, and tonight they felt it. The most important thing is how they respond on the pitch, and they showed that. The victory, however, has left its mark on the team. We had two or three injuries. I believe Edin Džeko has broken his nose, though I don’t have exact details as he wasn’t in the locker room. Armin fell on his shoulder, but after a win like this, the pain is easier to bear. We'll sort everything out in the next few days. As for Cyprus, a win is a win, and I have no problem celebrating a 1:0 result. But let us enjoy this moment tonight. Tomorrow, when we return, we’ll start analyzing Cyprus. Motivation won’t be an issue - our mentality comes into play now, and that’s why I’m here."

Goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj, who made several outstanding saves, was among the key contributors to the victory: "It’s a big win, but we have another equally important game in three days. We have to win that one too. We can relax for a few hours and celebrate, but tomorrow we return to Sarajevo and shift focus to the next challenge. This win cost us a few players; we gave everything on the pitch and fought as one until the final whistle. Now, it’s important to carry that energy into the Cyprus match. Without a win there, these three points won’t mean much. We’re playing at home, we’re favorites, but we can't underestimate them. We have to be aggressive in both attack and defense."

Player Ivan Šunjić also expressed satisfaction, highlighting the team's discipline in defense: "We knew they’d put pressure on us in front of their fans, but we did a great defensive job. These are three very important points. Now we need to recover well and get ready for Monday because we need the same approach and energy to maintain consistency. That must be our standard. I always give my best for the team. If we fight for each other like we did tonight, it makes everything easier. The team always comes first."
