Head coach Savo Milošević and captain Edin Džeko addressed the journalists present.
“We have a plan, we are not in a situation to threaten, but we will do our best. We know it will be very difficult, but the attitude we had in Liechtenstein is what we need in every match. It is crucial that we believe in our quality and what we do. These guys have enough quality and I’m sure we won’t have any fear on the pitch”, said Milošević and continued:
“I wouldn’t be satisfied with a point, because we need three to keep a chance of qualifying. We must fight as long as there is a chance. We can lose, but we have to show our quality on the pitch. I don’t expect a different approach from Portugal tomorrow, I’m sure they will go for the win. They probably want a perfect score in the group, tomorrow will be difficult. From the beginning of the gathering, I have been telling the guys that we need to play our game. We have a plan for March, but also the qualifications that are still here. We have to look exclusively at ourselves, regardless of the strength of the opponent, if we want to achieve something.”
Džeko stated:
“Regardless of everything, we have the quality that, unfortunately, we haven’t shown in the last matches. Tomorrow we will try our best, to show the quality from the Nations League, which we have played best in the last couple of years. Portugal is a team that punishes you from half chances, no matter how good we are, not everything depends on us. They have a large number of quality players.”
When asked if the Portuguese will be more relaxed, because they secured a place at the EURO, the captain answered:
“Portugal is not under pressure, but I expect a big fight on the pitch. They have great players who play in big teams.”
Džeko also played previous play-off matches against Portugal, so he looked back on those matches as well:
“I am more experienced compared to the previous matches with Portugal. We were unlucky with them in the play-offs, it would have been a different story if our opponent had been someone else. The matches were difficult, because they decided whether to go to the big competition. Portugal is a great motivation, especially for younger players who have just arrived in our national team. I hope that tomorrow match can have a better result compared to those from 2009 and 2011.”
After the press conference, our national team players trained at the BH FF Training Centre. The match Bosnia and Herzegovina - Portugal is scheduled for tomorrow at 20:45 h with a live broadcast on BHRT. The match will be refereed by Halil Umut Meler with assistants Mustafa Eyisoy and Kerem Ersoy (all from Turkey). The VAR referee is Benoît Millot from France.
