Victory against Romania

The national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina came to its first victory in the UEFA Nations League, celebrating against Romania with the result 1:0.

The hero of the match played tonight at the “Bilino Polje” in Zenica, as well as three days ago in Helsinki against Finland, was the great Smail Prevljak, who scored his sixth goal in the “Dragons” jersey.

Bosnia and Herzegovina opened the match very well and from the first minute held the strings of the game in its hands. Attacks of the home team were repeated, but without enough luck and skill in the very end. In the midst of that initiative, in the 19th minute, the Dragons’ defence made a cardinal mistake, forgetting about George Puscas, who bypassed Ibrahim Šehić, but his last-moment shot was thrown into the corner by Anel Ahmedhodžić. In the 37th minute, the Romanians had another great opportunity. Once again, Puscas was left alone in the penalty area, his shot for 5-6 meters was defended by Ibrahim Šehić, and Andrei Burca sent the bounced ball near the goal. In the 43rd minute, on the other side, captain Edin Džeko had a good opportunity, but his shot was stopped by Romanian goalkeeper Florin Nita without any major problems.

The beginning of the second half did not bring many chances. The BH head coach Ivaylo Petev made a triple substitution during the break and sent Smail Prevljak, Miralem Pjanić and Amir Hadžiahmetović into the game. In the 67th minute, Bosnia and Herzegovina took the lead. Haris Duljević passed on the left side, his cross was briefly refused by the Romanian goalkeeper, and Smail Prevljak was in the right place and scored his second goal in the Nations League. Driven by the support from the stands, the Dragons managed to preserve the acquired advantage until the end of the match.

In the second-round match of Group B3 of the Nations League, Finland defeated Montenegro 2:0 in Helsinki. After two rounds played, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Finland have four points each, Montenegro 3, and Romania without points.

Bosnia and Herzegovina will play its next match on 11th June in Podgorica against Montenegro, starting at 20:45 h.
