Media representatives were addressed by head coach Ivaylo Petev and goalkeeper Ibrahim Šehić.
“Tomorrow we have a match to end this cycle. The most important thing is to fight and show a desire to win. We have to show much more than in the last match against Finland. I can’t say now in which squad we will play, but it is possible that some players who used to play less will get the opportunity”, said Petev, then referring to this qualification cycle:
“We have to analyse where we went wrong and how we will work in the future. The most important thing is that we play well and responsibly tomorrow. We must continue to work to progress day by day. And these players will be more experienced in the next cycle. We have to learn lessons from everything.”
Ibrahim Šehić answered a journalist’s question about the situation in the team after the match with Finland:
“We are all disappointed and sad. It is not easy to prepare after a defeat and a scenario that no one expected. We have to be serious at the end of the qualifiers to repay the fans in some way. We cannot allow ourselves to play with the reputation of the national team. The players are aware of that, especially the younger ones. They also have to take responsibility and work to grow into the new leaders of this team.”
Šehić also added:
“This is a team sport and we are all guilty of every defeat, and together we celebrate victories. We didn’t want to win as much as an opponent did that day and that was sad. If we don’t enter the match one hundred percent, we can’t beat anyone, so we have to change that mentality in the future. There were matches that we played well, such as against France, Ukraine and Kazakhstan away. For some reason, we played better away, as if some players could not cope with the pressure when we play on our pitch.”
The national team players will train in Butmir tonight at 19:00 h.
