Work on this project has been ongoing, and today, a VAR seminar started at the "Hills" hotel in Ilidža. FFBiH, in collaboration with FIFA instructors, will educate referees and assistant referees in using VAR technologies.
Referee observers are also attending the seminar, with the aim of introducing the VAR in our elite football competition from the first round of the 2024/25 season.
VAR project manager Ognjen Valjić stated, "We’ve completed a significant portion of the work in preparing and implementing the VAR system in the Wwin League. All contacts have been made with FIFA representatives responsible for introducing VAR technology into refereeing. In this regard, a ‘kick-off meeting’ (the official start of the system’s implementation) is scheduled for May 11th and 12th. FIFA representatives will monitor the process and inform us about the next steps in order to ensure this project becomes operational by the start of the next competitive season. For this reason, we began referee education today in cooperation with FIFA VAR instructors Bruno Marić and Tomislav Šetka. The program is designed to familiarize referees, match observers, as well as technical operators who will work in VAR rooms, with the functioning of the VAR system. The FFBiH Executive Board, led by President Zeljković, tasked us with implementing the VAR system from the first round of the next season. The equipment has already been purchased and one of the leaders in VAR technology, 'Hawk-Eye', used by FIFA as well, will also be present on our fields. Despite the short time frame ahead of us, I'm confident that with good and dedicated work, we'll succeed in our intentions to have the VAR system installed in all Wwin Premier League matches from next season.”
Chief VMO (VAR Match Official) instructor Elmir Pilav briefed all participants at the beginning of the seminar on their duties in the coming period and outlined how the training of officials for implementing VAR technology in our competition will be conducted.
