The workshop was opened with a welcome speech by General Secretary Adnan Džemidžić, followed by presentations from VAR Project Manager and FIFA VAR Instructor Ognjen Valjić, and FIFA VAR Instructor Elmir Pilav.
Valjić spoke about the workshop: "Through today's presentation, we aimed to educate media representatives on all the details regarding the implementation of the VAR system in the Wwin League of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We're entering the first season with this project, and it's very important for us that everyone - both the media and the public - understands how decisions are made on the field. We're starting the new season with a lot of optimism and we believe that VAR will significantly contribute to the quality of the competition in a positive sense. This is certainly one of the most significant projects initiated by the FFBiH Executive Board under the leadership of Vico Zeljković."
Pilav emphasized that the implementation of VAR will significantly increase the percentage of correct decisions on the field: "This is a significant step forward, not only for refereeing in our league but for BiH football in general. It will certainly improve refereeing on the field, but it won't solve all problems, just as it hasn't in other countries that started using this technology much earlier. There will always be situations open to discussion and doubt about the fairness of decisions. However, what is certain is that this step will improve refereeing altogether, lead to better transparency, and definitely increase the percentage of correct decisions in crucial situations. VAR can intervene in four situations: goals, penalty decisions, direct red cards, and mistaken identity of players. In these areas, there will undoubtedly be noticeable progress."
The 2024/25 Wwin League competition starts this weekend.
