Women’s National “A” Team Wins in Qualifiers Opener

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s women’s national“A” football team defeated Estonia 3:1 today in Zenica, in the first round game of Group C1 in the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.

In the first half, the BiH team controlled the game, and the first chance came in 15' when Sofija Krajšumović shot from a tight angle on the right, however goalkeeper Katarina Kapa cleared the ball for a corner. Five minutes later, after a corner kick, the ball fell to Melisa Hasanbegović about ten meters from goal, but Kapa once again reacted well. Estonia had their first chance following a counterattack in 27', when Mari-Liis Lillemae attempted from a promising position, but Ena Šabanagić blocked the shot.

The Dragons took the lead in 36'. Una Rankić delivered a corner from the right, and Marija Ana Milinković sent the ball into the net from close range.

In 41', Estonia equalized via Siret Raamet from the penalty spot after Gloria Slišković handled the ball inside the penalty area.

Šabanagić tried a long-range effort in 2' of first-half stoppage time, but the ball went over the crossbar. A minute later, Emina Ekić crossed from the right, and Ena Šabanagić reacted brilliantly at the near post to score for 2:1.

Milena Nikolić had a strong header attempt in 54' after a cross from Milinković, but Kapa saved it. In the continuation of that attack, Krajšumović tried from distance as well, but without success. Chances kept coming for Selver Hodžić’s team. First, Krajšumović earned a corner in 56' after a shot from the left. A minute later, after a corner from the right taken by Ekić, Marija Aleksić headed from close range but sent the ball wide.

Andrea Grebenar struck an excellent shot from the edge of the box in 88' to score a nice goal and set the final score at 3:1.

In the next round, Bosnia and Herzegovina will face Liechtenstein on March 7 at 13:00 at the FFBiH Training Center in Zenica.
