Our team threatened first in the 7'. In a trademark run down the right, Esmir Bajraktarević cut inside and fired from 18 meters, just wide. In the 16', Amar Memić put our team ahead. Samed Baždar delivered a precise ball from midfield into space, and the swift Memić made the most of it, beating Malta’s keeper for 0:1. Three minutes later, Ivan Šunjić tried from distance, but his shot lacked intensity to beat Henry Bonello. Malta’s first serious chance came in the 36', when Teddy Teuma crossed from the right after winning the ball, and Ilyas Chouaref headed weakly from five meters out. In the 40', Ivan Bašić also tried from distance, but missed the target.
In the 53', Bosnia and Herzegovina doubled the lead. Memić passed to Haris Tabaković, who did well from 7–8 meters and found the net. Three minutes later, Tabaković had another good chance after a run by Luka Menalo, but Malta’s keeper came out on top this time. In the 59', referee Vitālijs Spasjoņņikovs judged the contact between Martin Zlomislić and Alexander Satariano in the box as a foul. Paul Mbong converted the penalty with help from the post, despite Zlomislić reading the shot.
In the 66', Malta had another good chance, but Irvin Cardona headed wide. Armin Gigović struck powerfully from over 20 meters in the 80', but missed the target. In the 84', the Dragons executed a training-ground move starting from keeper Zlomislić, which ended with a cross from Menalo and a goal from Benjamin Tahirović. Two minutes later, Bosnia and Herzegovina scored again. Bonello saved twice from Bašić and then from Nail Omerović within 6–7 seconds, but couldn’t stop Omerović’s second attempt after a pass from Gigović.
The next national team gathering will be in November, when decisive matches await in the battle for a top-two finish in Group H of the World Cup Qualifiers. First up is Romania in Zenica on November 15, followed by Austria in Vienna on November 18.
