The new season of the Serbian Super League started very well for Vojvodina and its best player Siniša Saničanin.
The Novi Sad team defeated Partizan three times in two and a half months, won the Cup, and is fourth on the table with 14 points, four less than the leader Crvena Zvezda.
This 25-year-old BH national team player, Siniša Saničanin, is in excellent shape, scoring three goals in five matches. The effect is thus greater if it is known to be a stopper, whose main task is to defend the goal.
“I also surprised myself in a way. I like to attack, I’m good at jumping and I’m trying to use that to help the team on both sides of the pitch”, says Saničanin.
He started his football career in his hometown of Prijedor. He passed all the teams of Rudar and made his debut early for the first team. He spent three senior seasons and then he moved to Banja Luka. After half a year, he left the City Stadium and signed for Mladost from Lučani.
“Vojvodina was the right move, because I grew up here both as a player and as a man. I enjoy this club, it’s nice, I’ve been in Vojvodina for three years, I play the best football in my career and I’m satisfied.”
The invitation to the “A” national team came at the best time. The head coach Bajević followed his games and handed him an invitation to the national team for the upcoming matches with Italy and Poland. Did you expect to be on the roster?
“I definitely wanted it, because I played well and I was glad that someone followed my games. For years I was in the junior teams of U-19, then U-21. I played a lot of matches, especially with Darko Nestorović in the young national team. I am glad that there are a lot of players with whom I played in the youth teams, now in the “A” team, and they are Gojak, Ćivić, Hadžiahmetović, Lončar, Menalo, Hodžić, Pirić, Prevljak... Our time is coming and I believe we will use it on the right way.”
What do you think about the upcoming matches that are ahead of us? What are the Dragons’ chances?
“The first one is against Italy and it is a great test for us. A strong opponent, but we are also strong. We also have great players, who play in top clubs, compete at the highest level. We can match any team. Poland is also strong national team with good individuals, but I think that we also have the quality and motivation to adequately oppose them. I can’t wait for the matches for the national team.”
Are you expecting maybe a place in the first line-up?
“It’s normal for me to think about it. Every player would like to play, and so would I. I will try to impose myself to the head coach, so if he thinks I need him, I will be happy. However, the most important thing is the team’s result. I hope we will show quality and that we will use these Nations League matches to better prepare for the most important thing, which is the play-off in October and November.”
Are you thinking about leaving Vojvodina?
“I’m not thinking for now. I’m focused on the team and I want to perform all my duties professionally. I have a great cooperation with coach Nenad Lalatović, who helps me a lot with his advices. He played as a stopper and knows everything I need.”
