Norway had the more concrete chances early on, mostly through Sindre Walle Egeli, who threatened several times, but Amar Ibrišimović made timely blocks in 11' and 13' to avert danger. Egeli also shot in 21', but the ball went wide. The Young Dragons had a good chance in 17' after a set-piece combination, when Emin Kujović fired from over 20 meters, just wide of the post. Goalkeeper Mladen Jurkas stood out with two excellent saves after shots from Niklas Ødegård in 28' and 39'. Marius Broholm missed a big chance, heading wide from five meters. In 40', Jurkas saved again, stopping the ball right on the goal line.
The second half brought more dynamic play and several dangerous moments at both ends. In 58', Emin Kujović unleashed a fantastic curling shot from over 30 meters, but it struck the crossbar. Norway scored in 70'. Egeli took a free kick from the right, the ball slipped through a crowded box, eluded Jurkas, and ended up in the net - 0:1. In 80', Filip Taraba tried from 25 meters, but the ball sailed over the bar.
After the match, head coach Branislav Krunić said: "Despite the tough and cold weather, with snow falling at times, both teams played a good, quality match. At times, both we and the Norwegians had control. Each team had its chances, but unfortunately, we didn’t convert ours. We conceded after a break, which is Norway’s strongest weapon, especially in these conditions. I’ve got no complaints about my team, I think they played a great match. It’s clear we’ve progressed in certain areas, especially in building attacks and creating chances. We move forward. This team still has a lot of room to improve, and they’re showing that from game to game. We’re only halfway through the qualifiers, and our next matches are in March against Slovenia at home and Israel away."
Norway remain perfect after three matches and top the group, while our team has 5 points from four games. The next round for our U-21 team is in March: hosting Slovenia on March 27, then visiting Israel four days later.
