Young Dragons better than Belgium

The U-21 national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina finished the qualifications for EURO 2021 with a victory.

The team of Slobodan Starčević beat their peers from Belgium 3:2 tonight at the Asim Ferhatović-Hase Stadium in Sarajevo.

The guests had the initiative at the beginning of the match, which paid off in the 7th minute when they came to the advantage. Charles De Ketelaere sent a precise pass to the left side of the BH team’s penalty area, where Thibault De Smet did great and lobbed Filip Dujmović for 1:0.

After that, there were no opportunities until the 29th minute, when the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina equalized the result. Jovo Lukić fought well for the ball on the right side, entered the penalty area and sent the return ball to the five-meter area for Milan Savić, who was accurate for 1:1.

The young Dragons reversed the result in the 31st minute after a great shot by Ševkija Resić from almost 20 meters. The goal was preceded by the assistance of Stefan Kovač, who took the ball away from the Belgians in the middle of the pitch.

The second half started with a great opportunity for the team of Slobodan Starčević. Kovač passed on the right side and sent the ball to the opposite side for Savić, who shot from a favourable position, but the goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart intervened brilliantly.

The Belgians had a good attempt in the 65th minute, when De Ketelaere shot from the edge of the penalty area, but Dujmović defended. Diagonal from the left side, Dante Vanzeir hit the outside of the net a minute later, the and after a corner kick in the 67th minute the ball came to Wouta Faes who shot over the goal.

Stefan Kovač crowned a great game tonight with a goal in the 70th minute. After the pass of Selmir Pidra, Kovač released his keeper on the left side of the opponent’s penalty area and shot accurately into the closer corner of Bodart’s goal for 3:1.

Đani Salčin had a good attempt in the 88th minute, but he shot over the goal from the edge of the penalty area.

Loïs Openda reduced the advantage of our team to 3:2 in the 90th minute from the penalty spot.

The national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina finished the qualifications in third place in Group 9 behind Germany and Belgium, and ahead of Wales and Moldova.
