The Italians started offensively in the match, which was paid off already in the 3rd minute. Martina Rosucci hired Cristiana Girella, who entered the penalty area of the BH team and from about ten meters sent the ball behind Dijana Haračić.
After that goal, the chosen ones of Samira Hurem did not allow to the quarterfinalists from this year’s World Cup to create many opportunities. Still, Italy scored another goal over Manuela Giugliano in the 28th minute.
In the second half, the BH team played even tougher. The home team had more ball in its possession, but the BH national team’s players managed to defend all attempts of the Italian, so 2:0 remained.
Bosnia and Herzegovina ended the match with 10 players as Amela Kršo received a second yellow card for a foul on Stefania Tarenzi in the 89th minute.
After the match, the head coach Samira Hurem stated:
“We played another excellent match against great Italy. 7000 people cheered for Italy and in such an atmosphere there was fear in our players in the first 15 minutes. We received a goal early, but came out bolder in the second half, more confident and provided a better game. This national team is in the process of its development and matches like this help us to be at the level we need as soon as possible. These are realistic results and we should congratulate our girls.”
Hurem also commented on the success of the BH women’s junior team:
“I especially congratulate our U-19 team for its great success. After 10 years we are in the elite round. We will certainly have better quality young players who will improve their game after the elite stage and get another experience.”
Our best female footballers continue qualifications on 12th November, when they will play away in Israel.
