Selver Hodžić - I Hope For Good Results In The Nations League

Women’s football is continuously growing and developing globally. This trend is also evident in our country, where adopting the first Strategy for the Development of Women’s and Girls’ Football marked a significant step in setting goals and directions for growth at club, national, and infrastructural levels.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina women’s national team will begin their UEFA Nations League B campaign next month, competing in Group B1 against Poland, Northern Ireland, and Romania.

Selver Hodžić has been at the helm of the women’s national “A” team for just under a year, which is enough time to get to know the players, assess their work, and evaluate the results achieved during the Euro 2025 qualifying cycle.

"I think we played well during the qualifiers and in the playoff matches against Serbia. We’ve shown that we can compete on equal terms with stronger national teams. The team’s progress is evident, primarily due to the players’ exceptional dedication and their team spirit. I must emphasize that we're recognized for our fighting style of play, which we aim to leverage for further development since we have the potential. Supporting this is the fact that more of our players are taking on prominent roles in European clubs."

The BiH national team will kick off their UEFA Nations League B campaign against Romania on February 21 in Zenica. Head coach Hodžić spoke about the group’s favorites and what can be expected from his team.

"Poland qualified for the Euro, which means they’re a great team, and they also have one of the world’s best forwards, Ewa Pajor, in their ranks. We’re familiar with Northern Ireland, and even though we haven’t had a positive record against them, I believe we have realistic chances to avenge the losses from the previous qualifiers. Romania is a developing team with many talented young players alongside a few experienced ones, but we can match them.

When it comes to our capabilities, I believe the most important thing is for the girls to have confidence that we can beat any team. We’ve gained a certain level of self-assurance, so I expect a step forward in development, both tactically and individually. The players are eager for the next gathering, and their desire and motivation are undoubtedly high. The group is tough, but I expect good performances and hope for positive results in the Nations League."

Coach Hodžić also added that he hopes 2025 will be marked by the successes of BiH’s female footballers, both in the national team and at their clubs, culminating in a positive outcome at the end of the competition.
