Women's Road to Euro 2025 – Our Team Loses to Serbia

The Bosnia and Herzegovina women’s national "A" football team ended their Euro 2025 qualifiers with a 4:1 defeat against Serbia in the second leg of the playoff semi-finals tonight.

Serbia took an early lead in the 10th minute when Sara Stokić, set up by Vlajnić, controlled the ball with precision in the penalty area and shot into the far corner past Almina Hodžić to make it 1:0. Our team responded quickly, with Nikolić shooting from distance in the 12th minute, but her attempt was saved by the home goalkeeper. Serbia threatened again in the 21st minute, but Emina Ekić blocked Stokić’s shot at the last second.

The Dragonesses equalized in the 29th minute when Milena Nikolić headed in a brilliant cross from Selma Kapetanović, bringing the score to 1:1. However, Serbia regained the lead before halftime, as Nina Matejić scored in the 42nd minute, converting a cross from Emilija Petrović for 2:1.

In the second half, Serbia had a major opportunity in the 52nd minute when Sara Stokić shot from close range, but Hodžić made a fantastic save. In the 58th minute, Milena Nikolić had a clear shot against Sara Cetinja but missed over the bar. Serbia extended their lead to 3:1 in the 62nd minute with a second goal from Matejić. In the 70th minute, Serbia missed a penalty, with Hodžić saving Tijana Filipović’s attempt, but Filipović struck again in the 75th minute for the final 4:1 scoreline.

Post-match, BiH head coach Selver Hodžić commented: "For the first 60 minutes, we were equals, staying in the game until Milena Nikolić sadly missed an equalizing chance. After that, we conceded the third goal very quickly, which took a toll physically and mentally, and Serbia capitalized on that. I congratulate them on a well-deserved win. Our players gave their best, showed determination and did everything they could to follow the tactics we agreed upon."

With this loss, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s qualification campaign has ended.
