The guests were the first to threaten already in the 2nd minute, when Zarah Taillieu shot diagonally from the left side of the penalty area and hit the post. The BH team replied in the 21st minute, after a corner by Janica Filipović, Ajla Balić hit the post.
The BiH national team performed an excellent action in the 27th minute, when Edina Avdić shot unhindered from about 15 meters, but the goalkeeper Lise Musique stopped her shot.
In the same minute, the Belgians launched a counter-attack, which ended with a goal by striker Thirsa De Meester.
Ilija Lucić’s team equalized in the 52nd minute. After a cross from the left, the ball came to Nina Brnić on the penalty, and she left it for Edina Avdić, who ran and shot accurately for 1:1.
Avdić tried two minutes later from the edge of the penalty area, but the Belgian goalkeeper intervened well.
Belgium reached a new advantage in the 57th minute. De Meeste played a return ball for Anouck Bergen who was accurate from about 20 meters for the final 1:2.
After the match, the head coach Ilija Lucić stated:
“We have to admit that the better team won today. We had a great desire and the players did their best. We entered the match badly, but after the initial attacks of Belgium, we also created some opportunities. In the second half, we managed to equalize, but it was short-lived and the Belgians deservedly won. We had a lot of problems with putting together a team and we are missing a few standard players, but that does not diminish the victory of an opponent who has a really strong team.”
In the second round, Belgium and Moldova will meet on 17th March, while the tournament ends with the match Bosnia and Herzegovina-Moldova, which will be played at the “Pecara” on 20th March at 15:00 h.
