Victory of female seniors

The brave BH female cadets dropped victory in the 90th minute

The women’s U-17 team of Bosnia and Herzegovina played tie 2:2 with Belgium in Zenica today in the first-round match of Group 1 of the 2020 EURO qualifications.

There weren’t many opportunities in the first half hour of the game. The Belgians had three inaccurate attempts from distance, while Bosnia and Herzegovina threatened through Maja Jelčić in the 22nd minute.

The first good opportunity of scoring had Belgium in the 30th minute. Jill Janssens, after a pass from the right side, shot from ten meters and the goalkeeper of the BH cadet team, Anamarija Prljević, threw the ball into the corner.

Belgium took the lead in the 37th minute. Hannah Eurlings passed on the right wing and forwarded the ball to Imani Prez who was precise for 0:1.

The BH cadets entered offensively the second half and created three opportunities in the first five minutes. First, Almasa Pandžić was not precise on the left side. The Belgian defenders then stopped Marija Ana Milinković and then blocked the attempt of Irma Kurtagić.

Maja Jelčić had two more solid attempts, but the result did not change until the 73rd minute. Then Naida Haračić took a free kick on the right and Sidney Japić scored a goal by head for 1:1.

The chosen ones of Ilija Lucić reversed the result in the 77th minute. Marija Ana Milinković ran the counter attack, came out alone in front of the Belgian goalkeeper and sent the ball into the net for 2:1.

Belgium tied the score in the 90th minute after a great shot of Luna Vanzeir from about twenty meters.

At the end of the match, the head coach Ilija Lucić said:

“I congratulate the players who reached their maximum today and achieved a great result. We waved from defeat to victory and the seconds were missing to score all three points. Our wish is to qualify for the elite round and we made a big step towards that goal. England follows and everything is up to us. If we repeat the game we showed today, I’m sure we will achieve the desired result.”

In the second match of the group, England beat Croatia 2:0 this morning.

The second-round matches will be played at the FF BH Training Centre in Zenica on 24th October, and Belgium-Croatia (10:30 h) and England-Bosnia and Herzegovina (15:30 h) will meet.
