The final between the two most successful national teams in this competition’s history lived up to expectations. Spain controlled the game for most of the game, had more possession and created more chances, while Germany defended successfully for much of the time thanks to their disciplined back line and excellent saves from goalkeeper Janna Krumme.
The decisive moment came in the 60’. Following a corner, captain Irune Dorado reacted best inside the penalty area and scored with a precise finish to make it 1:0, which ultimately proved to be the final result.
Germany tried to respond in the closing stages but failed to seriously threaten Spain’s goal. The Spanish team held on to their narrow lead until the end and deservedly claimed another European title.
This year’s UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship, held in Bosnia and Herzegovina from June 27 to July 10, brought together Europe’s eight best national teams. Over two weeks, 16 matches were played at Grbavica and Asim Ferhatović Hase stadiums in Sarajevo, as well as Bilino Polje and the FFBiH Training Center in Zenica. The tournament took place in an excellent atmosphere and once again confirmed that our country successfully meets UEFA’s high organizational standards.
In addition to top-level football and a large number of talented young players who represent the future of European women’s football, the championship also provided significant promotion for Bosnia and Herzegovina as a host of major international sporting events.
The Football Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina thanks UEFA for the trust it placed in us, as well as all national teams, match officials, volunteers, partners, host cities, supporters and everyone whose involvement contributed to the successful organization of the UEFA European WU-19 Championship final tournament.
