Following today's draw for the 2028 World Cup main qualifying roun, head coach Goran Melher gave a brief comment: "Our goal is to reach the Elite Round, and Poland are certainly the favorites in the group, a solid, physically strong team that has invested heavily in both its league and national team for years. I've also followed Northern Ireland, who showed progress in the previous qualifiers, but I think we can compete on equal terms against both teams."

Bosnia and Herzegovina have been drawn in Group 5 together with Poland and Northern Ireland.

The matches will be played from December 2026 to March 2027. The 12 group winners and the four best runners-up will qualify for the elite round of qualifying, while the remaining second-placed teams will play in a playoff for a place in the final stage of qualification.
