Milena Nikolić, with her quality, dedication and goals, has brought joy to the faces of all those who have the women’s national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina in their hearts countless times. We talked with the captain of the She-Dragons about the upcoming EURO.
You are the captain of the BH women’s “A” national team and you know very well what it means to play for the national team. What advice do you give to young cadets before the start of the championship?
“Playing for the national team is first and foremost a great honour, so I would like to tell our young She-Dragons to be proud of themselves for having the opportunity to wear the jersey of our country, because many girls have never had the opportunity. Especially since they will represent our country in such a big competition, and regardless of the result, let them give their best in every moment. Let them fight and be one team that will present Bosnia and Herzegovina in the best possible way by their commitment and effort, which I have no doubt about.”
What did your football beginnings look like, could you have imagined in the first years that you would reach the UEFA Champions League and play in the great Bundesliga? Can your experience help younger football players achieve their football dreams?
“I would say that what I have always dreamed of has come true, but it is as if I am not yet aware of all that and I think that I can still give a lot to football. I hope that some more of my dreams will come true before the end of my career. Certainly, my experience can help the younger generations a lot. And not only mine, but all the girls who play at a high level and who are the bearers of the game of our national team. I am very glad to see that young players want to work on themselves, learn and progress.”
What does the arrival of UEFA WU-17 EURO in Bosnia and Herzegovina mean to you, how important is it for young football players and how much is it an opportunity for further development of women’s football in our country?
“Considering that this will be the largest sports competition in our country organized by the BH FF and the umbrella European House of Football, for me as a citizen and a national team player of Bosnia and Herzegovina, this is a great success, both for women football and football in our country in general. It is certain that this is a big step forward in the promotion of women’s football in B&H and thus a great opportunity to break down all prejudices about girls in football together.”
As a tournament ambassador, can you tell us what the guests and participating teams can expect in Bosnia and Herzegovina?
“They can expect a nice atmosphere, good fun and, above all, nice hospitality in all the cities where the tournament will be held.”
