Goalkeeper Nejra Hejub points out the mistakes from the first round will not be repeated:
“After yesterday’s recovery training, we analysed the match with the Netherlands. We saw where we went wrong and today, in the training session, we tried to correct some things. We are aware of these mistakes and it is important that we do not repeat them tomorrow. I believe in this team and I believe we can achieve a good result against Denmark. It will be a difficult match, because all teams at the European Championship are strong. However, we have not lost faith in ourselves and I believe that tomorrow things will be better for us.”
Striker Ivona Benković thinks similarly:
“After the match with the Netherlands, it was very difficult for all of us and we all just thought about that match. However, the head coach and his assistants stood by us, picked us up and prepared us for the next match. Today we did a good training session, where we tried to correct the mistakes; we made. The team is now in full force, we are ready mentally too and we want to justify the fact that we are at the European Championship. Watching the Denmark-Germany match, it is clear to all of us that our next opponent is also very strong. On the other hand, they also have some shortcomings and I hope that we will turn that to our advantage on the pitch.”
Hejub and Benković welcomed their debut at the European Championship with a lot of emotion:
“I was really proud of myself and my team. We’ve been sticking together for two years and we’ve been preparing for this for a long time. The dream of each of us was to perform at this EURO. It was the first match for us in front of so many spectators who supported us all the time. Everything was so unreal and we are sorry for the results in the end, but the performance at the European Championship is something really special”, says Nejra Heyub.
“Every time I play for the national team, I try not to cry when the intonation of our anthem starts. It’s a really special moment for every athlete. Then when we went out on the pitch, we just realized where we really were. My parents were there and their support meant a lot to me. We entered the match very motivated, conscious of the support we had, and especially because it was difficult for us that we did not achieve a better result”, points out Ivona Benković.
