Coach Sergej Barbarez commented on the match against Hungary, where he earned his first point in an official game as head coach: "It was a different game compared to the one in the Netherlands and it demanded a different approach from us. It required great fighting spirit, thought, and courage. Unfortunately, we lacked some courage in midfield, where we saw opportunities to pose a threat within 2-3 passes. The problems we faced were of our own making. A few technical errors when receiving the ball and consecutive corners created pressure for us. Fortunately, our defense functioned well, and goalkeeper Vasilj saved us several times with great interventions."
Nikola Vasilj was outstanding tonight and one of our best players: "I would highlight our great fight tonight, especially against a team like Hungary and in front of their crowd. Defensively, we were as compact as we could be. I’m delighted personally and for the team that we earned this point. It’s clear we haven’t been together for long, especially when it came to controlling the ball, but I believe that will improve with time."
Nikola Katić had a tough battle with Hungary's forwards: "We have to be satisfied with the point, but we must not settle for it. We need to aim to win as many games as possible against opponents like these. It’s also important that we broke the streak of seven losses. This is our fourth game with the new coaching staff and new players, we have a good player base, and we’ll build upon this. I’m happy that the next matches are finally in front of our fans. We’ll try to keep the good things and improve the ones that weren’t. I hope this is the start of a good run."
Ermin Bičakčić’s experience was valuable for young players: "I want to help this young team with my experience, along with Edin and Sejo, who unfortunately didn’t play these two games. We anticipated Hungary’s reaction after our loss to Netherlands, we expected an aggressive opponent and pressure on the backline. I think we did a good job; it wasn’t easy to play here. Every point boosts confidence, and I believe we still have a lot to show. There’s a lack of certain automatism in our play, but we’re on the right path. We need to work a lot."
