The lecturer was the licensed FIFA instructor Igor Radojčić. The seminar covered various topics that are crucial for the quality use of the VAR system. The referees got acquainted with the basic principles and tenets of VAR, as well as with the VAR protocol, which includes four categories of situations in which VAR can be used. The roles of all parties involved were also discussed, including the referees on the pitch, the VAR referee (Video Assistant Referee), the AVAR referee (Assistant Video Assistant Referee) and the referee responsible for monitoring the VAR room.
One of the topics of the seminar was the difference between subjective and factual decisions, and how VAR technology can help in making more objective decisions in situations open to interpretation, and attention was paid to the “Clear and Obvious Mistake” category.
Communication between the on-field referees and the VAR team was also highlighted as an important component of successful VAR implementation. The referees were introduced to the best practices of communication in the VAR room and communication between referees on the pitch and VAR referees. This aspect of the seminar allowed the referees to better understand the importance of clear and quick communication, in order to reach a correct decision.
The referees of the m:tel BH Premier League showed great interest and actively participated in the discussions during the seminar.
This event confirms the determination of the BH FF for continuous training of referees and preparation for the future application of modern technology in BH football. The introduction of VAR technology into the domestic competition is one of the key projects of the BH FF in the coming period.
