Ivica Osim buried. Besides, thousands of people said goodbye to the legend of BH football

Category: News

The BH FF Honorary President, Ivica Osim, was buried today at the City Cemetery “Bare” in Sarajevo, in the Alley of the Greats.

Thousands of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and people from the world of sports and public figures from the region and Europe said goodbye to one of the most influential people whom BH sports had.

Before the funeral, a commemoration was held at the National Theatre in Sarajevo on the occasion of the death of Ivica Osim, at which, among others, the BH FF President, Vico Zeljković, gave a speech.

The President greeted those present and said:

“Today is a difficult day for all of us gathered in this place. Especially for a football family saying goodbye to its member. We bid farewell to our Honorary President, Mr. Ivica Osim. Simply saying, our boss.

The teacher from whom we learned the lesson of life, how to work, how to act, how to think. One, the only and unrepeatable. He always offered a proposal for a good solution in difficult situations. He offered one that way eleven years ago. He offered a permanent solution for the future of BH football. And he succeeded.

In key moments for football in B&H, he led the work of the BH FF Normalization Committee. He participated in making all important decisions. Everything else is history. Two events forever marked the period of work of Ivica Osim at the head of the Committee, and those are the opening of the Training Centre in Zenica and our first participation in the World Cup. Huge and unrepeatable. And we are especially grateful to him for that.

His name remains eternally engraved on the wall of the great, rare people who had a special charisma, rich knowledge and solid character. We will sadly mention his observations, speeches and words that have been a guide for many on how to move forward. And we must keep moving forward. To live and work with a lasting memory of our esteemed and dear honorary president. A unique and unrepeatable “ŠVABO”. GLORY TO HIM!”

Apart from President Zeljković, the funeral was also attended by members of the Executive Board, the administration, as well as other bodies of the BH FF.

UEFA head of football Zvonimir Boban also came to the last farewell of the popular Švabo, as well as representatives of regional football associations, and numerous state officials, prime ministers, ministers, mayors.
