Head coach Sergej Barbarez said after the match that the final score didn't reflect what happened on the field, pointing out that Switzerland's first goal and Tarik Muharemović's red card completely changed the course of the game.
Barbarez: "Of course, the loss is too heavy. When you're a man down, you have to try to control certain things. I think we were better than our opponents for 60 minutes. Unfortunately, we conceded the way we did. We didn't clear that ball properly, and then came the red card, which created an additional problem. Two details were crucial to the final outcome, our mistake before the first goal and the red card, and I'd certainly like to change one of those. We've always said Switzerland are a good team. This isn't over. We know which matches we're playing, and that's how we'll prepare and try to beat Qatar. There's no surrender."
Džeko: "It's certainly too heavy a scoreline, a tough defeat in the end. We couldn't hold on during those last 20 minutes. We conceded naive goals; this is the kind of competition where you can't underestimate a single ball. At 1:0, when we got the red card, we should've sat deeper and thought about how not to concede another goal, while trying to take one or two chances up front. It won't be easy against Qatar. We'll try to rest, prepare well, and attempt to win. This defeat definitely hurts today because goal difference can also be decisive."
