The German national team is the absolute record holder in the number of trophies won and the most successful national team in the history of the competition. The Germans lifted the trophy 7 times (2008, 2009, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019). They lost once in 2018 final, while in 2010 and 2011 they won a bronze medal.

In 11 out of possible12 participations, they won some of the medals 10 times.

At the last European Championship, which was held in 2019 in Bulgaria, the Germans defeated the Netherlands in the final after a better penalty shootout, and this year they will play in the same group.
