In an entertaining match full of twists and turns at the Asim Ferhatović Hase Stadium in Sarajevo, reigning European champions Spain were held to a 2-2 draw by Switzerland. Switzerland took the lead through Mece in the 24th minute before Ainoa Gomez equalized for Spain in the 36th. Gomez then put Spain ahead again in the 63rd minute, but Pfister converted a penalty in the 87th minute to secure a point for Switzerland.

In the second Group B fixture, played at Bilino Polje Stadium in Zenica, Austria defeated Iceland 3-0. Austria were the better side throughout the match and deservedly claimed all three points to move to the top of the group after the opening round. The goals were scored by Denise Lueger (28'), Ronja Leidler (45'+2') and Tina Krassnig (90'+3').
