Opened in 1950, the stadium has undergone several renovations over the decades, gradually transforming it into a modern football centre. Its uniqueness lies not only in being a sports venue — “Koševo” is a place that preserves the history of Sarajevo and many major events, including the unforgettable opening of the XIV Winter Olympic Games in 1984.
The stadium has a capacity of around 30,000 spectators, making it the largest stadium in Bosnia and Herzegovina by this measure. The highest attendance was recorded in the early 1980s during the city derby between Sarajevo and Željezničar, with approximately 55,000 spectators.
Modern infrastructure, UEFA-standard locker rooms, professional lighting and a high-quality pitch make Koševo suitable for a wide range of competitions and events. The surrounding area further enhances functionality, including auxiliary pitches, media facilities, and technical capacities necessary for broadcasting matches across Europe.
Koševo is particularly valued for its atmosphere. The stadium is set in a picturesque part of the city, surrounded by hills that give it unique acoustics and visual identity. Fans, visitors, and participants always highlight the warmth of Sarajevo and the experience of playing in a place where history and contemporary sport intersect.
