Grbavica Stadium, home to FK Željezničar and located in the eponymous Sarajevo neighbourhood, is one of the country’s most important football centres. Known for its strong identity, character, and the unique energy of its supporters, Grbavica has undergone significant modernization over the past decade. Thanks to these upgrades, it now meets all UEFA standards for hosting youth and senior international matches.
The current capacity of the stadium is around 13,000, with the southern stand under construction, which will increase total capacity further. The stadium officially opened in 1953 and is popularly known among Željezničar fans as the “Valley of Jars.” The record attendance, according to official data, was in 1985 during the UEFA Cup semi-final match Željezničar – Videoton.
Key infrastructural improvements include modernised stands, upgraded lighting, a high-quality pitch, and professional locker rooms. The stadium is equipped with media facilities, VAR technology, and spaces for officials and technical staff, making Grbavica competitive with modern European sporting venues.
Beyond infrastructure, Grbavica is renowned for its atmosphere and proximity of fans to the pitch, creating a strong sense of connection and matchday energy. As a host city, Sarajevo provides the perfect context — rich sporting tradition, football-loving locals, and infrastructure ready for a major European event.
During the UEFA Women’s Under-19 European Championship 2026, Grbavica will host a series of group-stage matches as well as final-round games. Its location, accessibility, and experience in organising major domestic and international matches make the stadium a key pillar of the tournament and a central stage for the future stars of European women’s football.
