Germany’s victory in the opening match of the UEFA European Championship

Germany opened their UEFA Women’s Under-19 European Championship campaign with a victory, defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina in the opening match of Group A with a result of ______. The match was played today at the NS/FS BiH Training Centre in Zenica.

The Germans capitalised on their territorial dominance and greater possession in the 36th minute, when Paula Rintzner, following an assist from Helen Börner, scored the first goal of this year’s European Championship. The match went into halftime with that scoreline.

Just four minutes after the restart, Germany doubled their lead. Felicia Strasser scored after a fine solo run down the right side, finishing from 16 metres into the top right corner of the Bosnian and Herzegovinian goal. The same player added her second goal in the 57th minute, heading in from close range after a corner delivered by Paula Rintzner for 3:0. In the 71st minute, Elira Terakaj delivered a cross from the right side, and Emma Memminger converted from 5–6 metres to make it 4:0. The final score of 5:0 was set in the fifth minute of stoppage time by Lany Backer with an impressive strike from over 25 metres.

The other Group A match will be played tonight at the Stadion Grbavica at 20:00, where Sweden will face Poland.
